Trump graffiti upsets residents in Hope, Idaho

HOPE, Idaho – Graffiti on a retaining wall that refers to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Hope, Idaho has some people upset.

The graffiti is on the retaining wall for what's called the Chinese cemetery. The graffiti reads, "Trump/Save America deport illegals." It has since been covered up.

Leaders at the Bonner County Historical Society said the hill served as a cemetery for Chinese railroad workers in the late 1800s.

The burial site was rediscovered in the 1970s or 1980s when highway crews were installing the retaining wall and found human remains.

Don Hester lives just down the road from the retaining wall near Highway 20900 in Hope. For the five years he has lived there, the wall has been graffiti free.

"It's just not the way to express your views. There are much better ways," said Hester.

Regardless of what the vandalism said, it was something that had no place there.

"It doesn't matter to my wife or I what your political views are. For Trump, against Trump, whatever. Illegals, no illegals. It doesn't really matter, you know. That's defacing where we live," said Hester.
