SPOKANE-- A seven-year-old Cheney girl battling cancer underwent surgery Friday to remove a tumor and save her leg.
Doctors diagnosed Sierra Higbee with bone cancer in March, and they determined she also needed a tumor removed.
Her insurance company would not cover the surgical option that could save her leg, so the community stepped in to raise money for her family.
Portland doctors performed her surgery, which Sierra’s dad reports the insurance company finally agreed to cover.
Sierra will stay in the hospital for a few more days to recover before she comes home.
