SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gary Stoddard has an extensive criminal history with accusations of violent crimes against women over several years.

Tuesday Stoddard and his nephew Jon Ritchey were arrested for the brutal murder of Heather Cassel. Stoddard is also accused of kidnapping her.

Court documents show Cassel was found with a handcuff on her wrist. Stoddard admitted to shooting her once in the chest and then in the face. He told detectives he panicked and didn’t want to go to jail, but that’s the one place another of his victims hopes he stays forever.

This alleged rape victim of Stoddard, who asked to be anonymous, says even though she knows he’s in jail tonight, she still lives in fear he’ll come after her.

“I’m scared of him. I was under the impression Gary was dead or not ever coming back to Spokane again,” she said.

When word got out Stoddard was arrested for the brutal murder and kidnapping of Cassel, the victim says all the horrifying memories of him raping her came flooding back.

“I’ve hid it from my family for years. I’ve lived in constant fear of Gary.”

This victim likely isn’t the only one. Stoddard has a lengthy rap sheet including accusations of kidnap and rape.

Court documents show the victim in a 1999 rape case said Stoddard forced her to have sex twice and said “if you don’t stop screaming, I’ll snap your neck.” A jury found Stoddard not guilty in that case.

Stoddard’s had problems with the law in Spokane and Pend Oreille County. Many of his charges have been reduced or dismissed. In 1997, he was charged with kidnapping but in the end, it was dropped to a first-degree burglary charge with domestic violence. An attempting to elude charge was also reduced, and a second-degree assault with a deadly weapon charge was dismissed.

This victim says Stoddard should have been locked up long ago. She says she once loved him, and his charming personality is one of the scariest things about him.

“That’s all I want. I want to know why he did this tom me. I want to personally see him and ask him "why did you do this to me?"I was supposed to be your family. I looked up to you.”

The woman says she does hope Stoddard will face additional charges for her attack. She’s talking with detectives.
