SPOKANE, Wash.--There were a number of people in the area when officers shot and killed a murder suspect on Tuesday near Standard and Jackson. One man said he saw the whole shooting go down.

Officers were responding to a murder scene in the area after someone reported a body on a floor in a home. Officers were searching for the murder suspect when he came bursting through a police barricade. Police said the murder suspect got out of the car with what appeared to be a gun when they shot him.

One of the witnesses said he was walking home when the shooting unfolded in plain view.

"Others started yelling ‘get down, get down!’” said witness Henry Sasser.

Other neighbors in the area described hearing a rapid set of gun shots.

“When he came out, he was crouched down. He had a grey object in his hand. It was pretty clear it was a handgun of some kind. As soon as officers saw the weapon, they started shooting him,” said Sasser.

KREM 2 News will release the name of the murder suspect that was shot and killed when his next of kin is notified of his death.
