OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) -- The Washington State Patrol is starting to put 200 new Chevrolet Caprices into service, replacing aging Ford Crown Victorias.

With full equipment the new patrol cars will cost about $7.8 million.

The Olympian reports the cars are equipped at the patrol's office in Tumwater with radar, a GPS system, cameras, computer docking systems, prisoner cage, spotlights and light bars. The Caprice also needs a heavier bumper for troopers to perform the PIT maneuver on fleeing cars.

About 15 new patrol cars a month will be added until next summer. The WSP now uses more than 700 patrol cars.
