SPOKANE—Construction on a popular road will have a huge impact on traffic through the area.
Around the clock construction will affect drivers north of Francis this week while crews work on Waikiki Road.
Workers planned to install a new drainage system as part of an ongoing project in the Waikiki/Five Mile area.
Waikiki will be closed between North Five Mile Road and Hawthorne. North Five Mile Road will also be closed between Waikiki Road and Elma.
Drivers said the closures will add 10-15 minutes to their commute.
Project engineers said there isn’t a defined detour in place since the project is so spread out. They advised drivers heading north to take Division and those heading south take Hastings or Hawthorne.
Construction is scheduled to be wrapped up by Friday.
