SEATTLE - Anti-tax activist Tim Eyman's Initiative 1033, which would limit government revenue, cut property taxes and require voters to approve any tax hikes, is trailing as the state releases the first round of election results.
With about 40 percent of the expected vote counted Tuesday night, I-1033 was losing 56 percent to 44 percent.
The results are not surprising.
Just a week before the elections, a KING 5 News poll showed Initiative 1033 losing by a fairly large margin. The poll showed 50 percent of those questioned said they were planning to or had already voted no, while 38 percent said yes.
Eyman said his measure could actually help maintain the state's current bond rating because it would make the government more fiscally responsible.
Opponents to I-1033 have said it would result in more cuts to schools and health care.
