CHENEY, Wash. -- With students on holiday break, the EWU marching band was down to about 50 musicians.

So the Eagles put out a call to the community asking for volunteer musicians to join their pep band.

Two-thirds of Saturday’s band were volunteer musicians who jumped at the chance to join the band for the big game against Sam Houston State.

More than 100 musicians joined in, and even the regular band members were impressed with the talent that showed up to play.

Volunteers ranged from 13 years old to 74 years young.

Sam Houston State brought 80 marching band members to Roos Field, so without EWU’s volunteers the Eagle band would have been outnumbered.

The Eagles went on to lose to Sam Houston State 45-42.
