SPOKANE -- A huge volleyball tournament is in Spokane this weekend for the Pacific Northwest Qualifier.  There are about 500 teams competing.  Downtown businesses and hotels are cashing in on the event.

The Bothell Club Volleyball team is just one of hundreds who are in Spokane.  Players and their families pack the hotels and spend their own time eating out and shopping.

According to the Spokane Sports Commission, the economic impact tops $5 million.  Some of the money goes to local athletic shop Sport Town.

"I wouldn't have a percentage but you definitely notice it," said Sport Town employee Sean Ross.  "When there's a convention or sporting event in town, the day will go quicker because we'll be busy all day."

The Spokane Sports Commission also said the tournament continues to be the single largest hotel room and night generating event in Spokane.  More than 10,000 rooms are booked.  Staff at the Holiday Inn on Division estimates more than half of their rooms are filled thanks to the tournament.
