NEAR SPOKANE, Wash. -- A cell phone video shows the moment of impact of a wrong-way crash on Interstate 90 Easter Sunday night.
The video shows headlights blinking on and off facing the wrong direction in the westbound I-90 lanes west of Spokane. Several vehicles pass by and then you can hear the people watching in horror as the collision happens.
Washington State Patrol said 73-year-old William Ainsworth from Pe Ell, Washington collided head-on with a 2000 Hyundai driven by 19-year-old Jessica Sharpe of Liberty Lake. Ainsworth died at the scene after his car came to rest in the median.
Sharpe suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center by helicopter. She was later flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
A third car, a 2011 Toyota Camary driven by 35-year-old Jackie Borup of Moses Lake, hit Sharpe's car shortly after the initial collision. Borup and her nine-year-old daughter were both injured and taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center.
WSP just saw the video this week, and is looking into how it will assist in their investigation.
