SPOKANE—Spokane’s Use of Force Commission wrapped up Thursday and said members are ready to make recommendations to the city.
The group will share their policy change recommendations to Spokane Mayor David Condon.
The five volunteers have been working since February to come up with ways to improve the Spokane Police Department. The commission’s job has been to dissect the use of force policy and how officers use it. It is has also been an open forum for community to share their thoughts of what they would like to see happen.
The commission will organize their recommendations and take public comment on them before they hit the mayor’s desk. The final draft is expected to be released in July.
Meanwhile, Condon said the search for a new police chief ends Saturday. While considering candidates, Condon said he’ll work to make sure the new chief can handle possible changes in department policy.
