Spokane – The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office confirms a University of Idaho student drowned in the Selway River near Lowell on July 21.
Bishal Shrestha was an international student from Kathmandu, Nepal.
He was rafting with four other U of I students from Nepal, including his brother when the raft got stuck and popped. Everyone on the raft fell into the river. Four of the rafters were able to get to shore and were transported back across the river in the dark by Three Rivers Rafting.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Shrestha was not wearing a life vest.
Rescue crews searched for the 22-year-old until well after dark Saturday, but were unable to find him. They located his body around 10:00 a.m. Sunday.
