Police arrest two suspected of stealing checks from CDA mailbox, cashing them

COEUR D’ALENE-- Police located two people suspected of stealing checks from a mailbox  in Coeur d’Alene, and cashing them.

Coeur d’Alene Police located for Michael Graham Wilkins, 28 and Lacey Lynn Fugate, 17.

Wilkins and Fugate were suspected of stealing two checks from the mail box of area business located in the 100 block of E. Locust around July 28th. Wilkins is believed to be responsible for adding his name to the checks and cashing it at a local Safeway store.

An employee of the Safeway store indicated that Wilkinson comes in to the store several times a day to cash checks.

Detectives received a tip that Wilkins and Fugate were staying at the Lake Drive Motel at 316 E. CDA Lake Dr. Officers responded there and contacted Wilkins and Fugate.

Detectives searched their room and discovered property they had purchased with the use of stolen credit cards and stolen checks. Among the items located were a new printer and a package of blank checks that had been purchased from Versa Check on- line with one of the stolen credit cards.

Both suspects were taken into custody on outstanding warrants from Douglas County, Oregon. Detectives expect to seek charges today on both suspects for Grand Theft and Burglary.

Fugare was also wanted for being a runaway from Douglas County, Oregon.
