COEUR D'ALENE -- Coeur d'Alene Police are investigating a shooting last night on the 200 block of Sherman Ave in downtown around 12:45 a.m.
Police say the suspect is 25-year-old Adam Johnson. He is at Kootenai County Public Safety Building being held on attempted murder charges.
When police got there dozens of people were in the street and had just come out of the bars.
Officers found two men had been shot, 25-year-old Brandon Burgess of Moses Lake and 25-year-old Bradley Phillips of Moses Lake.
Burgess is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The suspect was being held down by a witness of the shooting.
One male victim in his early twenties was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Kootenai Medical Center. Police said his injuries were so bad he may have been life flighted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The second male victim who is also in his early twenties was shot in the knee. He was also taken to KMC.
Both victims are from Moses Lake, WA and were visiting relatives in Coeur d'Alene for the Christmas Holiday.
Witnesses said the men got in a verbal fight at the Underground Bar earlier that night. The suspect then left the bar. Later, the victim and several friends were leaving the bar and as they rounded a corner came upon the shooting suspect.
Another fight broke out and the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several rounds at the group of people. Witnesses were able to overpower the man and hold him till police arrived.
The suspect was injured when he was subdued and was taken to KMC with head injuries. Police say his injuries are not life threatening.
