POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho health officials say two children have died from illnesses associated with influenza, bringing the total number of flu-related deaths in the state to 21 this season.
Deputy state epidemiologist Leslie Tengelsen says the pediatric deaths are a tragic reminder the flu can be very serious for all age groups, though it has predominantly affected the elderly this season.
It was not immediately clear how old the children were or where they lived.
The Idaho State Journal reports health officials are urging residents to be vaccinated.
The flu season begin Oct. 1. The last severe season for Idaho occurred in 2003-04 when 28 deaths tied to influenza were reported.
