LAPWAI, Idaho. -- The Lewis County Prosecutor has charged a Nez Perce Tribal police officer in connection to a 2011 shooting that killed a suspect.
Robert Wall was charged Thursday with voluntary manslaughter and weapons enhancement. He could serve up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Wall is accused of shooting and killing Jeffrey Flinn, who was suspected to intoxicated and driving a stolen car on November 12, 2011.
Police reports say Flinn has rolled his pick up on Waha Road in Nez Perce County and when two hunters tried to help him he stole their truck with two weapons in the cab.
Flinn drove onto Highway 95 and was observed several times swerving into traffic.
An Idaho State Patrol officer used spike strips to stop Flinn. When tribal police arrived Flinn fired at them with a loaded rifle and they returned fire.
Flinn was shot and killed on the scene.
Lewis County Prosecutor Zak Pall has brought in Canyon County Deputy Prosecutor Ted Fleming to assist in handling the case.
