SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Firefighters launched an extrication attempt Friday morning after a train collided with a car.

The collision happened near East Trent and North Vista.  Vista road at the crossing was expected to be shut down for hours.

Witnesses told investigators the driver of the car stopped at the tracks, and then drove through a rail crossing arm in front of the westbound train.  The train collided with the vehicle at about 20 miles per hour, according to State Patrol.  The train pushed the truck about 100 feet before coming to a stop.

The 68 year old male driver was reportedly conscious and alert when emergency crews pulled him out of the wreckage.  The Sheriff's Office said the man was sent to the hospital in stable condition.
