SPOKANE, Wash. -- A 5-year-old girl is dead and a woman and child were seriously injured when they were hit by a car near Monroe and Mansfield Friday evening.

Authorities said a man in a white sedan was going north on Monroe when he hit the family of three while they were crossing the street. Police said the driver stopped after hitting the pedestrians.

Officials said a woman in her 20's was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said she is in critical condition. The woman's son was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive.

The 5-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital Friday night and was pronounced dead Saturday morning.

A bartender happened to be outside on a smoke break when she saw the accident happen.

"I panicked. I mean I saw a car hit 2 babies and a woman. And I saw the baby and the mom fly in the air. I ran in the bar and grabbed the telephone and called 911 and we checked the babies. It was horrible," said Michele Lee.

The victims are in the hospital at Sacred Heart Trauma Center.

Police said they do not have anyone in custody. The driver is cooperating with police and has not been charged.
