BREWSTER, WA. -- Okanogan County Prosecutors have charged a teen arrested for allegedly planning multiple school shootings in Eastern Washington with attempted murder.
Charles Mustoe, 17, was charged Wednesday with Attempted 1st Degree Murder - Premeditated Murder. If convicted, he faces life in prison and/or a $50,000 fine.
Mustoe was arrested over the weekend after investigators say the mother of a 14-year-old Canadian girl called them them to report Mustoe and her daughter were planning to shoot people at school. The mother said her daughter and Mustoe were communicating via Facebook.
Court documents say the 14-year-old girl and Mustoe met online, and she told him she wanted to kill herself at school. The documents detail that Mustoe suggested he could "take out a few others with them."
According to the documents, the father then sent police multiple screen shots of a chat that took place between her daughter and Mustoe. During the chat, Mustoe allegedly explained the weapons he had access to, and wrote, "shot guns are best because we can take out two or three with one shot."
When officers contacted Mustoe, court documents say he was recently bullied by eight students and had been thinking about it ever since. Mustoe told them he wanted to shoot people at Chelan High School because he had too many friends at Brewster High School, where he is a student.
Officers also spoke with the 14-year-old girl, who said her online chats with Mustoe went "from music to suicide."
Mustoe told officers he wanted the shooting to happen on April 20, 2011, the same day as the Columbine High School shootings. Police say Mustoe considered Brewster High School, Bridgeport High School, and Chelan High School as targets.
Brewster Police arrested Mustoe and seized all weapons he had access to, including three shotguns, two pistols, and five rifles.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police determined the 14-year-old girl was no longer a threat.
