SPOKANE, Wash. -- The man who was tased near Oz Fitness on the South Hill on Thursday had another similar outburst in North Spokane on Tuesday.
The owner of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu said the man came to work out when a similar episode happened.
“He put one hole in the wall. Punched a hole in the wall,” said Bart Smith, the owner. “Halfway through the workout, he started stripping his clothes off. Getting really manic. Started saying random things that didn’t make sense. He knocked over the garbage can, he started rolling around in the garbage, and we’re thinking, ‘what is this guy doing?’”
Smith said that the man’s behavior was completely unpredictable.
“Locked himself in the bathroom, started pounding the walls and screaming, ‘you’re going to have to come in and get me.’ He started talking about God, the devil, and Tiger Woods,” Smith said.
There were also kids in the studio during the bizarre outburst.
“Fortunately, we had some of the toughest pro-fighters here in Spokane here training,” Smith added. “I told them I needed some help. We forced the door open and he was completely naked, and he was soaping himself down. He was lathering up in the sink.”
Smith said it took three of four of them to break the door down and get him out.
“He was really combative. He tried to bite a couple guys,” Smith said. “We knew how to restrain him. At one point we decided to hog-tie him and we just tied him up until the cops got here.”
Paramedics took the man to the hospital. Nobody in the gym was hurt.
Smith said that he was glad the event happened at his gym where there were people trained to deal with it.
“Sometimes choking someone out and subduing them is the only way to protect yourself and protect them,” Smith said.
The man has not been identified by police yet.
