SPOKANE, Wash. -- Imagine seeing someone open a car door and hopping in without any trouble.
Most people probably wouldn’t look twice, which is exactly how police believe a repeat offender made away with more than a dozen cars around Spokane.
The Patrol Anti-Crime Team caught up with 31-year-old Hector Martinez in a stolen Acura earlier this week. Martinez allegedly stole and dumped Hondas and Acuras all over town. He also took stereos and valuables from the cars, according to police.
The Spokane PD says it would shock most people to see how nonchalant Martinez acted while committing these crimes.
“He had a stolen car. He parked that car, went over and got into another car, and then stole it in less than 30 seconds,” Sgt. Joe Peterson said.
Authorities believe Martinez acted alone.
He is charged with stealing 14 vehicles, but officers suspect he stole more than that.
