SPOKANE -- A new list reveals when it comes to large homes, Spokane is in the top ten for metro areas in the United States. But real estate experts said the likely reason can be found in the older parts of town.
The survey, conducted by The Business Journals, defines a large house as having at least nine rooms. Spokane ranked sixth with almost 18% of the homes meeting that requirement.
Staff at the Spokane Association of Realtors said it makes sense if you consider the neighborhoods built at the turn of the 20th century. Big homes were built as the railroad, mining, and timber industries grew. That led to an earlier housing boom compared to other cities.
Experts said the ranking will likely not have an impact on the value of homes in the Spokane area market.
