SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.— A local hair salon helped McDonald Elementary students get ready for the start of school for free.
Stylists gave 28 students at McDonald Elementary School free haircuts. The school counselor helped coordinate the back to school prep day with Dept. Z salon.
“We have a couple of families for whatever reason couldn't afford it right now,” said school counselor Missy Scott. “So the fact that Dept. Z is giving up their time and service is really, really huge.”
Parents called the event “amazing.”
The stylists said they just wanted to help the kids start the year off feeling confident.
"It may just be a small thing but it makes a huge difference,” added stylists Mateo Balmes. “And it's really hard to have a hard day when your hair looks good.”
On Sunday, another salon will do the same thing for about 30 kids from Lidgerwood Elementary.
