SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A homeowner held an alleged burglar at gunpoint at a home on the 13,000 block of 20th Street on Tuesday around 10:00 a.m. Authorities arrived and arrested Kevin Neu, 36.
Homeowner Chris Malloy said he keeps a shotgun for protection and is an avid hunter. He also said that burglars have hit his property three times in the past three months. Malloy saw a man outside his window looking at his bikes and decided to confront him.
"I ran out, grabbed my shotgun, ran behind the shop. He was already between the shop and the container, bent over again, looking into a barrel and that's when I jacked the shotgun. He stood up and said a few words, then I had him lay down on the ground," Malloy said.
Deputies said Malloy held the alleged burglar at gunpoint while his neighbor called 911.
Authorities found a set of keys in Neu’s pocket that belonged to a stolen van parked about a block away from the house. The van was reported stolen on Monday from the Newman Lake area according to deputies. A number of likely-stolen items were also found in the van.
Officials said they believe that all of the items will be linked to vehicle prowlings and home burglaries reported in the Newman Lake area on Monday.
Authorities said Malloy had a rigth to protect his property and did not go overboard.
Deputies said that Neu will be charged with Criminal Trespassing and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
