SPOKANE, Wash.- – The Davenport recently renovated its spa quarters when the former tenant’s lease expired and already the hotel is getting affirmation for its effort: the Forbes four-star rating.

“Four-star is absolutely our goal here,” The Davenport Hotel Collection marketing director Matt Jensen said.  “But to get it so early on, I think, is great for our team and it really gives us a head start on setting the tone on what you can expect here at the spa.”

The Davenport set out to build a world-class spa, but had to do it within the confines of a historic hotel basement. It’s located in the same spot where the men’s barber shop was historically. The Davenport had to work around marble columns and pillars to give guests a great spa experience.

The Davenport Hotel Collection’s retail and spa director Tamara O’Connor said the spa made up for the limited space by training staff to deliver world-class service. And it worked.

“You know, we were two points off from a five-star and there’s only 35 five-star spas in the world,” O’Connor said.

Less than 200 spas in the world received the four-star rating. The only other spa in Washington to make the list is located in Seattle.
