SPOKANE, Wash. – Lewis and Clark High School senior Gabriel Soileau’s composition earned him first place in the nation and an invitation to perform in Chicago at the Music Teacher’s National Association’s national conference.

Soileau originally played his piece with the Spokane Symphony. In Chicago, he performed with DePaul University grad students at the Marriott Hotel on the “Magnificent Mile.” He said it was rewarding to be considered among the best in the nation.

“Some of the people in the senior division for performance were studying already like pre-collegiate at conservatories,” Soileau said. “To be represented with those people was really an honor.”

This was Soileau’s first trip to Chicago. He has not yet decided on a school for his continued education, but he has been accepted to Chicago University, Columbia University and the New England and Peabody conservatories.
