Vigil held for Spokane soldier killed by insurgents in Afghan Police uniforms

SPOKANE—The Department of Defense announced early Tuesday a Spokane native was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Jarrod Lallier, 20, died June 18, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Department of Defense says Lallier was killed when three insurgents in Afghan Police uniforms fired on Lallier’s unit.  Nine other soldiers were injured in the incident.  The gunmen are still at large.

Lallier was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

A candle light vigil was held at Mead High School Thursday evening.
