SPOKANE, Wash. -- Before people go to soak up the sun, they may want to look at a new study ranking cities where skin cancer risks are the greatest.
The Daily Beast named Spokane on its list of top skin cancer cities in the United States.
The online publication based their rankings on the number of clear days a city has each summer and skin cancer rates and deaths for every 100,000 people.
Spokane ranks number 11 on the list.
According to the study, Spokane has on average 38 clear summer days.
For every 100,000 people, 2.8 die from skin cancer, and 22.7 are diagnosed with skin cancer.
The report ranked Boise, ID number one on the list. Amarillo, Texas, Bakersfield, California, Salt Lake City, Utah and San Diego, California rounded out the top five skin cancer cities.
