SPOKANE, Wash.-- Spokane police invested big bucks in sophisticated tracking devices and they are using high tech electronics as bait for thieves.  Police said Tuesday that they are hopeful some new bait electronics will stop thieves in their tracks.

“Get a life. Really. Why prey on people when you could be doing something productive with your life?” said property crime victim Hershel Zellman.

Property crime victims like Zellman said they are fed up with crooks. They are desperate to get them out of Spokane.

Detectives said they would install special tracking software in the electronics and put them in cars in plain sight in Spokane’s worst neighborhoods.

“Our PACT team utilized it last week. We were able to get the item stolen. Through that, we were able to write search warrants. We located the item and other stolen items,” said Lt. Steve Wohl with the Spokane Police Department.

The devices are constantly being moved around town. Police can pinpoint exactly where the stolen device is at any time.
