SPOKANE, Wash. -- The City of Spokane planned to make changes in December so drivers could pay parking tickets the same day they were issued.
Drivers often complain about getting a parking ticket just minutes after their meter expired. But one local man was more upset he couldn't pay his ticket right away.
"I just went errrrrr!" said Erv Schleufer
Schleufer got a ticket earlier this week and tried to pay it off just hours later in person. He was told the ticket wasn't in the system yet.
"If they're making such a big deal about collecting money, they should collect the money when people show up there."
The City of Spokane takes up to three days to process a parking ticket before it can be paid for. But city officials were working to change that.
The city planned to update its system so people could pay for a ticket as soon as it is printed. The new equipment was being tested but officials expected the system to be ready to accept parking tickets instantly by the end of next week.
Drivers like Schleufer said they're glad to see the system updated.
"That's a good change in the right direction."
Another new feature starting this month will allow drivers to pay for those tickets online.
