SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Deputies chased down a repeat offender who allegedly pulled a gun on another man.

Police responded to a fight around 1 p.m. Tuesday near 4th and Pines. Witnesses said a man pulled a handgun on the other man after he was punched in the face.

Suspect Kevin Chastain, 33, was headed north on Pines when deputies caught up with him. They say the suspect refused to cooperate and ran off toward Sprague.

Chastain ran behind a truck during the pursuit, threw his gun on the ground and continued running. He also dropped his backpack and a plastic baggie in the chase.  Chastain was finally stopped once deputies tased him and took him into custody.

After investigating, police learned the Chastain’s gun was stolen. They say the plastic baggie was full with methamphetamine. Police say Chastain admitted to having a drug problem and said the meth was his.

The suspect has nine prior felony conviction including possession of a stolen vehicle and residential burglary.

He was booked into the Spokane County Jail for possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, obstructing and possessing burglary tools.
