SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- The Sheriff’s Office said a woman was arrested for allegedly withdrawing large amounts of money from her landlord’s debit card.

On Tuesday, the 78-year-old victim told investigators he had been missing his wallet and debit card since January 3rd.  According to deputies, the man said he went to his bank to cancel the card and was told there had been nearly $800 withdrawn from his account since then.  The victim also told deputies he thought his tenant, Lacey Major, 31, may have been the one who stole his money.

The victim reportedly told authorities Major had lived with him for about a year rent free and that, on occasion, he had allowed her to use his debit card for purchases.

Deputies checked with the victim's bank and discovered the card had been used on the 3rd inside a Rosauers store at Sprague and University.  Authorities then obtained surveillance video they said showed Majors using the victim’s debit card.

When deputies contacted Major and asked if she had been using the victim's card, she denied using it.

Major was booked into jail for the felony charges of 2nd Degree Theft and Identity Theft.
