Spokane Valley skier wins gold at Special Olympics World Games

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A Spokane Valley woman is the winner of two medals at the Special Olympics World Games in South Korea.

Heather Comer, an avid alpine skier, is very swift on the slopes.

This weekend, she won a gold medal in the Alpine downhill races, and bronze medal in the giant slalom race.

Comer, who has Down Syndrome, has skied for two decades. She is a member of Spokane Park and Recreation Department’s Powder Hound’s Program, which gives a chance to people with developmental disabilities to get outdoors and learn to ski or snow board.

Heather qualified for the World Games in 2012 after a winning a gold medal at the Washington State games in Wenatchee.

She is one of six Washingtonians putting her talents to the test in South Korea.

Closing ceremonies are set for Tuesday.
