SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.— Authorities confirmed Friday around 5:30 p.m. that they found the bodies of a man and woman in a car in Benewah County. The Spokane County Sheriff confirmed that the victim's families have been notified. The vehicle was found near a private cemetery according to investigators who were searching for a missing couple from Spokane Valley.
Earlier on Friday, a house fire had authorities searching for a couple who lives along S. Bettman near 17th. Authorities discovered they were missing when firefighters responded to a fire at their house. Firefighters called the Thursday afternoon fire “suspicious.”
Fire investigators asked the public for help locating John and Sandy Tiffany. The couple owns the home that caught fire and could have been driving a white Kia. Authorities said they are concerned for the couple’s safety.
Witnesses reported seeing a white car flee from the property just before seeing smoke.
Firefighters with the Spokane Valley Fire Department were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The 911 caller said they heard an explosion at the home and saw smoke. Nobody was home when fire crews arrived on scene.
Investigators said the fire was intentionally set. An accelerant detection dog located several spots throughout the home where accelerants were used to start and or spread the fire.
Anyone with information about the couple or fire is asked to call the fire department at 509-928-1700.
