AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. -- Spokane County bought Raceway Park hoping it would turn a huge profit.  Now, the raceway has a chance to prove whether it can.

The NHRA's Northwest Thunderfest drives in to Spokane Thursday.  Every revved engine fumes dollars for the raceway and the county.

300 racers from all over the region are expected to compete this weekend.  Each of them brings a pit crew that has to eat, sleep, and play locally.  Over the four day weekend, managers speculate the economic impact to be in the millions.

Managers say if all goes well this weekend, it will prove there is potential for bigger events.  Owners are even trying to schedule races that could be broadcast on television.

Some extra activities certainly wouldn't hurt.

They need to get a Pinks All Out scheduled! The stands and pits are PACKED at those events!
