SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane leaders said more than 2,000 people signed up to volunteer for the Spokane Gives campaign week running April 12 through April 19.

More than 2,600 people registered online to volunteer with 125 organizations. About 60% of the projects created are already filled up with volunteers. Habitat for Humanity leaders said they are always looking for more volunteers, and Spokane Gives opened up the door for new volunteers not familiar with their organization.
“Any initiative that helps promote volunteerism helps Habitat for Humanity and other agencies but we can put people to work any day of the year here in Spokane,” said Michone Preston from Habitat for Humanity Spokane. “This is a good way to get started, and it makes a Spokane a better place for each and everyone one of us to live."
The Spokane Gives campaign ends Saturday.
