SPOKANE -- The Spokane Fire Department uses a manufactured home converted into a fire house so it can provide services to services to a newly incorporated area.
Now fire officials are deciding whether to build a permanent station to replace the double-wide trailer.
Fire Station 6 covers ten square miles on the West Plains that the City annexed earlier this year.
Officials said crews that work out of the station have been able to respond fast enough to save several cardiac arrest patients. They also routinely help cover calls outside their primary area in West Spokane when other stations there are tied up.
The station is on pace to respond to more than 300 calls this year.
The Spokane Fire Department plans to use the trailer for at least five years to determine if that is the best location for a permanent fire station made of brick and mortar.
