SPOKANE COUNTY -- Car thefts may be going up across Spokane County, but so are the odds that victims will get their vehicle back.
800 cars were stolen in Spokane Valley and Spokane County in 2012, including a truck belonging to Dnelle Russell.
The young mother of two found herself without a way to get around just a few days before Christmas. Her truck was stolen right outside of her house while she was home.
Russell’s truck wasn’t gone long.
Less than three days after she filed a report, deputies found the family vehicle abandoned in an apartment complex. The only thing that was missing from inside was an electric saw.
Russell isn’t the only one who considers herself lucky.
The Sheriff’s Office said the recovery rate for stolen vehicles is 85%, higher than it has been in years.
