SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash.--A member of the Spokane County Sheriff’s K9 unit helped detain a wanted fugitive early Friday morning near South Herald.

Police issued a felony warrant for the arrest of 24-year-old Aaron V. Doney, for a burglary in Wyoming, according to the police report.  Several Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies, including Jeff Thurman and his K9 partner Laslo, responded to a residence on the 1000th block of South Herald, where they believed Doney was hiding.  Laslo led his partner to the suspect who was allegedly hiding underneath a van.

Deputy Mark Gregory said Doney appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and attempted to escape, climbing a nearby fence.  Laslo apprehended the suspect and deputies took him into custody.

Doney sustained minor injuries and was booked as a fugitive into the Spokane County Jail, where he could face additional charges for resisting arrest.  Neither Laslo nor Thurman received injuries during the pursuit.
