SPOKANE -- Burglary arrests are up in Spokane County and authorities are crediting collaboration with Spokane Police.
"We are pooling our resources, we are working together, and we are experiencing some very good successes,” said Interim Chief Scott Stephens, Spokane Police Dept.
The departments are focusing on repeat burglary offenders, sharing suspect information, and tracking suspects across jurisdictional lines.
"Criminals don't recognize municipal lines, they don't recognize county lines,” said Major Frank Scalise, Spokane Police Dept.
A recent uptick in high profile burglaries spurred the action, and the departments are reporting success. They are also looking at more ways to make the City/County relationship more efficient.
Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich says a big portion of keeping burglaries down is keeping repeat offenders in jail. Judges are also working to keep suspects behind bars by increasing bond amounts.
