SPOKANE, Wash. -- An inmate walked away from the Spokane Co. Jail. after staff wrongly released him.
Gregory D. Jeffreys was let go sometime between 7:49 p.m. and 8:31 p.m. Friday.
U.S. Marshals and local FBI agents were notified and joined the search for the 53-year-old inmate.
An FBI agent contacted Jeffreys lawyer early Saturday morning. He turned himself back into the jail just after 6 a.m.
Jeffreys was being held for multiple bank and wire fraud charges.
The jail will conduct an internal investigation to find out what happened.
