SPOKANE-- The Spokane County Jail was placed on temporary lockdown Friday morning following an attempted suicide.
The corrections deputy was making his rounds around 8:30 when he found an unresponsive inmate in his cell. Deputies performed CPR until medics arrived and transported him to a local hospital.
Later Friday morning, the hospital said the inmate had no brain activity, and it requested his family's contact information. The man has not been declared dead.
Deputy Craig Chamberlin said lockdown after a major incident like this is standard protocol. Taking that step allows all available resources to handle any problems.
Normal business operations and visitation resumed Friday afternoon.
