ATHOL—Silverwood Theme Park, a popular North Idaho tourist destination, is set to expand.
Thursday night the Kootenai County Commissioners approved a plan to rezone land near the theme park.
Ninety-five acres on the south side of the park owned by Silverwood, was zoned as rural and couldn't be built on.
The Kootenai County Commissioners rezoned the land as commercial.
Park officials say news of a possible expansion couldn’t have come at a better time.
Silverwood is on pace to break its single season attendance record of 650,000 people.
Officials say more space may be needed if this trend continues.
