ATHOL, Idaho -- Thrill seekers will have two new rides to try out when Silverwood Theme Park opens for the 2013 season.
The Barnstormer, described as a family-fun ride, has already arrived at the park and will be assembled as soon as the weather cooperates.
Silverwood is holding a contest to name its second new ride. It is described as a 104’ tall giant thrill ride exhibiting 3 ½ Gs. It has 24 outward facing seats.
The $2 million thrill ride was recently purchased from Italian manufacturer VISA International. Groundbreaking for the ride should start in February.
The naming contest will run from January 22nd through February 22nd.
Silverwood officials expect the thrill ride to be a big draw.
In 2012, the park set a new attendance record with more than 656,000 visitors. Silverwood expects a 5% attendance boost in 2013.
The Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce said the additional visitors could bring in an extra $1 million dollars to the local economy via gas, restaurants, and hotels.
When Silverwood opened Boulder Beach Water Park in 2003, there was a 50% attendance boost from the previous year.
