SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- One person was arrested during a shooting investigation near Dishman-Mica Rd. and Appleway Blvd. on Tuesday morning according to authorities. The investigation eventually grew to include federal agents and the North Idaho Task Force
Shawn Mertes, 36, was arrested at the scene. Authorities said that Mertes will be booked for aiming and discharging a firearm.
A shooting call brought authorities to the scene along the 300 block of South Dishman around 7:00 a.m. The 911 caller said that his car broke down in front of the house and that is when a man started shooting at him. Investigators said that the caller claimed to know the alleged shooter.
Deputies arrived and found that nobody suffered any injuries.
Federal agents and the North Idaho Task Force arrived at the scene a short time later. However, it’s unclear what they are investigating. The property owner, Jerry Colvin, said authorities searched a shop on the land.
He said that the current tenants began renting in October and paid an entire year of rent up front. Colvin told KREM 2 News that a man named Ian Harris runs an automotive repair shop on the land. He said that Harris wanted a space to fix up cars.
“A bunch of ambitious guys trying to do automotive repair work. That's the way it seemed. They were eager to get going,” said Colvin.
Although Colvin said the authorities who searched the property told him they were investigating criminal activity, he also confirmed that the property is heavily equipped with surveillance equipment.
Court documents pulled on Tuesday show that Ian Harris is scheduled to appear in federal court on Wednesday.
