SPOKANE, Wash. -- If you somehow missed a tornado hurling hundreds of sharks onto unsuspecting citizens in Los Angeles on the small screen, get ready for the “Sharknado” phenomenon on the big screen. The Syfy hit is making its way to local movie theaters.
The movie is coming to select cinemas nationwide on August 2 for a special midnight showing, including two theaters in the area - The Regal Cinemas at Old Mill Loop in Coeur d’Alene and at Northtown Mall in Spokane.
”Sharknado” premiered on Syfy on July 11, becoming an instant cult classic, generating nearly 5,000 tweets a minute. The disaster thriller inspired amazed, often jeering messages to reflect viewer amusement at the film's jaw-dropping premise.
The movie stars Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, John Heard and Casie Scerbo.
In addition to the big screen presentation of Sharknado, movie goers will be treated to never-before-seen footage including a behind-the-scenes featurette and a gag reel.
“Sharknado 2” is already in the works and is set to premiere on Syfy in July 2014.
