SPOKANE -- A major downtown Spokane intersection was blocked during the evening commute Monday after a serious crash.

Spokane Fire crews worked to free a 60-year-old motorcycle driver who was trapped under a truck at Sprague and Browne. Authorities said the man was not breathing on his own and did not have a pulse. He was transported to Sacred Heart in critical condition.

Emergency crews responded to the crash around 5:15 p.m. Monday. Police said the truck and motorcycle were traveling in opposite directions on Sprague. Authorities said the truck turned left and struck the motorcyclist, who became trapped under the truck.

Fire crews used equipment similar to airbags to lift the truck to get to the motorcycle driver, who was the only person who sustained injuries.

Major Crimes detectives were called to investigate. Spokane Police said the area was initially treated as a crime scene, but did not elaborate why. Neither speed or alcohol/drugs were believed to be involved, according to authorities.
