SPOKANE VALLEY-- Remember that scene in the movie, “A Christmas Story” where the little boy gets his tongue frozen to a metal pole?

Well it happened Monday in Spokane Valley.

It was a reminder to every one of what not to do.

A 13-year-old girl stuck her tongue on a metal pole at the old Pratt Elementary in ten degree weather and it froze there.

She did it right after her friend stuck her lip on the pole and it came off.

When the tongue froze to the pole, her friend called 911 and firefighters had to come out and pour water on it to get it unstuck.

Captain John Lovell from the Spokane Valley fire department told KREM 2 news, “evidently she hadn’t seen Christmas Story and didn’t believe it would happen, even though her friend had done it right before her so hopefully they learned a lesson here.”

The firefighter told KREM 2 News it’s the first time in 15 years that he has ever had to thaw a person’s frozen tongue from a metal pole.

The girl says it hurt.

Again the lesson is, don’t try this.

why y'all coming down on the kid? SHES JUST A CHILD!! LOOK AT HER!!! LoLz It's not her fault for beinga kid. Now, its the ADULTS of the situation that are ridiculous here. How much fire personnel and apparatuswere called to the scene? REAL QUESTION FOR YOU, VALLEY PPL: HOW MUCH MONEY DID IT COST YOU BECAUSE THE SCHOOL PERSONNEL WERE TOO CLUELESS TO TAKE SOME WARM WATER AND PUT IT ON THAT GIRL'S TONGUE? To me, this is like calling 911 cause they got yr order wrong at the Zips drive thru

Well, my first posting didn't make it past the KREM blog police so I'd better go easy. This is not news. KREM news dept should be embarrassed. for covering this. However my bet is no one involved in this incident is embarrassed, NIce job KREM for making a media maven out of witless 13 year-old who got exactly what she was after, attention. I wouldn't have touched this one with a ten foot frozen pole.

Apparently there was a 10 year old boy that did the same thing in Boise, ID(according to KXLY). What ever happened to common sense. when growing up my mom had 2 sets of rules first one was: 1. mom is always right 2. if mom is ever wrong go to rule number one. the second set of rules were: 1. dont be stupid 2. dont be an idiot. 3. dont be stupid. Guess she had enough of my biological fathers(and his relatives) antics.

Was she looking for her stupid stick? I mean we all have done or currently do stupid stuff, but come on now. These firefighers have better things to do with their time right now. Get a cup of water and poor it on your tongue.

The voice of experience. If this should happen to you, try breathing in through your nose, and gently breath out through your mouth. Keep your lips close to the end of your tongue. Your breath will eventually thaw the ice.

Id laugh too, but you dont have to tie up emergency services JUST TO POUR WATER ON A KID'S TONGUE!! The firefighter told KREM 2 News it’s the first time in 15 years that he has ever had to thaw a person’s frozen tongue from a metal pole. - THATS CAUSE MOST PPL DONT CALL 911 FOR STUPID KID STUFF!!
