SPOKANE, Wash. -- Spokane Fire Department officials said they were confident a man who died of injuries suffered in a fire in North Spokane actually started the fire himself.

Authorities said Gregory Paul Case, 61, died as a result of burns and smoke inhalation after the fire at a four-plex near N. Standard Street and E. Euclid Avenue Jan. 19. Case’s death was the City of Spokane’s first fire-related fatality in 2014.
A woman suffered a minor knee injury in the fire and was treated at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane.

Investigators Saturday were working to determine how Case may have started the fire and why.
