SPOKANE, Wash. -- Ford stopped making the iconic Crown Victoria police car, forcing law enforcement departments to replace old cars with different models.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office posted pictures on its Facebook page of nine new SUV’s it recently purchased.

The agency spent $32,000 on each.

Several comments were left on the Facebook page from people who were concerned about the money spent on the new vehicles.

Deputies argue the SUV’s have better gas mileage than the old Crown Vics.  The agency estimates $40 per day per vehicle will be saved in fuel costs.

The new SUV’s also have all-wheel drive, and a safety feature that keeps them from rolling.

There are 350 vehicles in the Sheriff’s Office fleet. As the Crown Vics “die," the agency will keep replacing them with the new models.
